When a customer drops in to pick up a new TV or projector lamps, we are frequently asked, “Why does my TV lamp keep burning out?” and “The life of my new TV light bulb/lamp seems to be getting shorter, why is that?” There are two major reasons:
- The lamp they purchased on-line is a cheap copy of the original equipment manufacturer (oem). These are poorly made with a lifetime that lasts only a few months. And more importantly, they have caused catastrophic TV failure. We see them in our shop.
- Poor cooling…as a result of dust build up. This is a common problem with DIY on replacing their lamps; they neglect to clean the cooling fan and/or filters which will significant shorten the lamps life. With each lamp replacement, the lamp’s life gets shorter and shorter.
The main purpose of this posting is to address the poor cooling situation and what what you should do to correct it.
